Mary Sarah Simonson left her granddaughter a famous and delicious Dutch Apple Pie Recipe.

             Makes one 9" pastry pie.
Filling:  6 peeled sliced apples or 2 lbs, 1 cup of sugar, 2 tblsp of flour, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of nutmeg, 1/3 cup of cream.  Combine filling ingredients in a bowl and pour into the pie shell.
Topping:  1 cup of rolled oats, 1/3 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp of salt, 1/3 cup of butter.  Combine these ingredients in a bowl and spread over the filling.
Bake at 375F for one hour.

This recipe was passed down from Mary Sarah Simonson to Marie Wicker which in turn passed it down to Mary Elizabeth McManus and today I have this apple pie recipe in which I traditionally make for Thanksgiving Dinner in remembrance of our family heritage.
